Periodically looking up the distance running world records can be mind-blowingly fun, so that’s what we’ll do today. Below is a link to the IAAF records page. The records for distance running on the track are faster than the road, so the link brings you to those numbers. Pick an appropriate button for the gender and distance you’d like to see.
Highlights (as of 11/22/13):
The men’s mile WR is 3:43:13 (!). That’s 55 sec splits for 400M (one lap of your local high school track).
The women’s 5K WR is 14:11:52, or 4:34 per mile.
The men’s 10K WR is 26:17:52, or a ridiculous 4:14 mile pace.
